Welcome Bluesocks
That’s not my team
A young Argentinian footie fan who decided to celebrate his love for Boca Juniors by having the team’s logo tattooed on his back paid the price for not adequately researching the body artist’s own allegiances.
The tattooist was, unknown to the unnamed teen, a follower of rival club River Plate, and accordingly substituted a penis for the Boca Juniors’ crest. The victim - who is now suing the tattooist - lamented: “I could not see what he was tattooing because he didn’t have a mirror. I only saw it when I got home and showed it to my parents.”
At least 88 things i did not know….
24 On May 27, 1990, a huge shipment of Nikes got lost at sea.
In one of the strangest shipping accidents ever, 80,000 pairs of Nikes went missing in the Pacific Ocean en route from South Korea to the U.S. Oceanographer Curtis Ebbesmeyer has been recovering Air Solo Flight, Strike Force, and Pegasus from that overboard shipment ever since. “Nike makes durable shoes,” says Ebbesmeyer. “Apparently they’re tougher than the ocean.” Now, Ebbesmeyer tracks their movement. “If you follow the shoes you can follow the currents.” He says a shoe from the spill can drift at an average rate of seven miles per day. “There’s 24,000 miles around the Earth at the equator. So they’ve been floating long enough to go around the world twice.” Dope floats, indeed.
Pollution aside, Nike should be using this little gem to sell shoes, or at least corner the aquatic marketing sector.
YouTube - Ice is Dangerous, even in Portland
I would be so angry if one of those cars was mine. In a way, you can’t help it because it’s ice, but it looks to me like all of these start of with some asshat thinking, “well, the car in front of me just piled it into a telephone pole, but I’m different. I got mad skillz.” Then blammo.
Boosh!
Besides the ridiculous anime - there isn’t much I don’t enjoy on Adult Swim. However, Frisky Dingo has now become my new favorite best thing ever. The 13 episode run can be found via a quick search on youtube, however, i’d skip the first episode, it really doesn’t stand up to the rest of the series.
Atlanta Magazine has a piece on the shows creators and early development of the show.
One of the program’s finer moments….
All thats missing is a laser light show.
Virgin Airlines is pitching their planes via youtube. I guess they’ve been denied access to the US market by the Department of Transportation, so they’re trying to sell their wares via a viral grass-roots campaign.
The planes are nice, and if the price was right, I’d fly on virgin, no problem. More importantly, if their prices were on point, I’m sure it’d be a nice jolt for the competition. Right now the fanciest thing I get on southwest are peanuts, and apparently if i fly for less than 2 hours on united, I’m not getting any crackers. AND I NEED MY CRACKERS. Alas, i like to fly, it’s like a boat in the sky, with wings, and lots of thrown elbows. Maybe if Richard Branson did a saucy puppet show on every flight I’d be more inclined to jump on board.
I unapologetically ganked this from Angie o’er at DTM, but I can’t recall the last time Detroit gave me this good of a laugh. My theory is that the DPD’s art budget got slashed by Hizzoner during the budget cuts, so they found a stash of old police sketches from the 80s to as substitutes, thinking no one will notice the difference.
I did not realize Detroit had a Little Italy* neighborhood, as that pencil drawing is as fine a guido-cature as I’ve ever seen. Our suspect is one gold chain and tuft of chest hair shy of being every single Italian stereotype in a Spike Lee film. Ever.
*Had I known there was a Little Italy, I might have never moved away.

Hong Kong Day 2
It’s pissing down rain here and that makes it a little hard to do anything. But, I had to go out and mission accomplished, I got my new working visa for Japan. Wow have things changed since I got my first visa in 2000. The alien registration cards are different for starters. Not really different, but a bit cosmetically improved and I think there is a new hologram in it. The visa in the passport is WAY different. My old visa was basically just a stamp on the passport with the kind and dates typed in. The new one is a large sticker that has all the info, a Q code, and some machine readable text with my picture on it as well. celebrity perfumes
Also, I did something else I wanted to do today; make a killing getting a new camera and boy howdy did I. If this thing is good and doesn’t break, I will have saved a ton of cash. I got this camera for $260 bones; including a screen protector. It’s even cheaper by 7000 yen than Japan.
I visited a place recommended to me by my colleague who hails from HK. It’s the Wan Chai Computer Center or something like that. It’s a 3 story place with a ton of small shops in it. I went there right as they were opening, hoping to be the guys first sale. I read that HK salesmen want to make a sale as early as possible, setting the tone for the day and you can talk them down. I had a few offers but this guy’s was the best. Now, I don’t want to say it’s sketchy, but it’s not like buying from a big box store. They have limited supply and actually what I got was the one in the showcase. It came with all the original box and manuals and everything. But as it’s not a big box store I get a little nervous. But that’s almost a 100 USD discount. I really want to take some pictures but I don’t feel like going out in the rain. One thing I should mention is, I’m really not much of a person who haggles over price. I’ve never been good at it but I knew for a fact I could talk these guys down so I did just that. I tried to get a free SD card out of it, but the price was already pretty freakin’ low. One thing the salesman did was “ set it up for me” which I have yet to check. I think he was just setting the time and stuff, but it also gave him a chance to try and talk me into other stuff. I said no to memory (I have tons), case, and other battery, but went for a screen protector. I didn’t really want it, but it was just a few bucks and it gave the guy a little something else and made him finish up the “setting up” so I could get the hell out of there.
I’m trying not to be a wuss about food here, but I sort of am. I love to try to new food, but I just don’t know where to go and just blindly going into a shop with no English on the menu is a little to much for me. I’m hoping that when my colleague gets here tomorrow we’ll have some good stuff.
So I did what I could, and tried something available only at HK McDonalds. I know, I know. It was a Pork Curry burger with large steak fries. It tasted like you would imagine, if you can imagine McDonalds making unbreaded pork nuggets. Yeah, exactly.
A few other things I saw today was a large food district that had HUGE amounts of raw meat and fish just out there on tables on the sidewalk. I also saw many of those places that have live chickens and other birds in cages just waiting for a hungry shopper. Wow.
The escalators in the HK train stations are fast. I love it.
I have the feeling that HK in some ways is a kind of hard place. It’s gritty and seems more concerned with getting shit done than really worrying about how it looks. Unlike Japan where everything is clean and spotless to the point of obsession (and maybe harm to your body), this place seems to not care. It’s weird but feels more real in a way.
Hong Kong
Well, I’m here. I have to admit, I was not very excited to come here. I’m here mostly because of paperwork, but then I thought “hey, most people don’t get a chance to go to Hong Kong so don’t be a wuss.” So, I’m trying to not be a wuss. So far Hong Kong is great. The things I noticed right off are
1. It’s nice and warm, currently 69F. That’s nice
2. The trains are pretty easy to use. The only complaint I have is no automated machine to do fare adjustments.
3. The airport is nice, you land pretty much on the water
4. The buildings here are FUCKING LARGE. Countless 30+ story buildings
5. Mountains are everywhere
6. English is everywhere. Non-Asians are all over; It’s nice to not get stared at too much.
So far I’m digging it. I could possibly see myself living here. Right now I’m in Quarry Bay and I think I’ll go hang out in Causeway Bay tomorrow if I can. One thing I find interesting are these super tall housing buildings. Around the area I’m in, there are some ghetto ass buildings. I mean super scummy on the outside with stains and clothes hanging out all over, just junky. There are also some really sweet buildings right next to them which makes them look worse.
Next to my hotel is a police station and jail. Sweet. I can’t believe I forgot my camera. I’m thinking of just going and buying a new digital camera so I can get some sweet pics. I did turn the ol’ Macbook around and point it out the window. I’m staying here, on the 28th floor. Schweet. One thing I can already tell about this place is 4 days won’t be enough. I wish I could stay here for 2 weeks and just go hiking. I can see a decent peak less than a mile away.
